About Knies, Helland & McPherson Attorneys at Law

Partnering with you for a successful future

Welcome to Knies, Helland & McPherson Attorneys at Law. Our founders and partners, Jennifer Knies, Jennifer Helland and Kelly McPherson, decided to join together to create a family law firm unlike any other. We have developed a completely new approach to custody and dissolution of marriage cases. Recognizing that every family is completely unique, we work hard to partner with clients to develop a personalized solution that will work best for them moving forward.

At Knies, Helland & McPherson, we work with clients to find the right path for them, handling traditional divorces and custody matters – but we’re also highly experienced in mediation, and we offer divorce coaching and other a la carte services. We understand that going through a divorce can be excruciating, so we partner with each client to come up with a customized solution that meets each person’s individual needs and goals.

Our Experience

We, the three partners at Knies, Helland & McPherson, are well-respected lawyers who have decades of law experience between us. We are close friends and have tried cases together over the span of many years. We each handle our own cases but we always work as a team. So, when you hire Knies, Helland & McPherson, you get the expertise of the whole firm, as well as one of the partners as your lead attorney.

The firm also has extensive experience in military family law, as Jennifer Knies is a graduate of West Point and Kelly McPherson is a graduate of the Air Force Academy. Jennifer Helland has written articles on the new military retirement system and is a resource for local attorneys on military issues such as GI Bill benefits. All three of us have worked with military families to help them work through conflict and move forward positively with their lives. Knies, Helland & McPherson also offers discounts to military and law enforcement families.

We, Jennifer Knies, Jennifer Helland and Kelly McPherson, are all mothers, passionate advocates for children, and believe in a healthy work-life balance. One of the significant reasons we started this firm together was to find that balance: working hard, but with flexibility, to allow for time to invest in ourselves, our families, and our community. We are not only passionate about advocating for families and helping through an often stressful and emotional part of their lives, but we also serve as child advocates in custody matters.

Knies, Helland & McPherson family law firm is deeply invested in the Colorado Springs community and we’ve partnered with The Home Front Cares, a Colorado Springs-based military non-profit organization, to whom we donate 5% of our net profit annually. The Home Front Cares provides an emergency financial bridge and responsive support to Colorado’s military members, veterans, and their families. Our firm also supports athletic teams for military academies and local schools.

Knies, Helland & McPherson is also involved in assisting TESSA, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Safe Passage, and Pikes Peak Pro Bono Services. We sponsor Air Force Academy cadets, coach soccer, track, and hockey, and we assisted in founding a new charter school in District 49 and are involved in Discovery Canyon Campus’ theater and music programs.
