Melissa Guggisberg was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota and graduated cum laude from Minnesota State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Business Law. In her undergraduate studies, she worked with a U.S. Senator and spent quite a few months on Capitol Hill. She received her Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in 2012 and moved immediately to the mountains of Colorado, where her husband served in the U.S. Army.
Melissa has worked in El Paso County in the field of domestic relations since 2013, where she has served in many roles and firms. In 2017, she opened her own law practice and also works as Of Counsel for KHM Attorneys at Law. Melissa served for 10 years on the El Paso County Bar Association, most recently serving four years as treasurer. She is currently serving on the Board for the Ben S. Wendelken Inns of Court. She has also been the Chair of the Military Affairs committee and on the committee for the El Paso County family law section. She is a longtime member of the Military Spouse Attorney Network (MSJDN), where she works to provide avenues to military spouse attorney licensing and generally helping military families with their legal needs.
Prior to her work in the legal field, she was a financial advisor, with a license in Securities Series 6 and 65 and in insurance. She was also certified in alternative dispute resolution and has worked in close proximity to military families, serving as an AFTB and ACS instructor and a leader for military spouse families. She volunteers her time with Ronald McDonald House Charities and providing mentorship and tutoring to teens and college-aged students.
Melissa has been married to her husband since 2011 and they have two daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and fishing with her family and generally enjoys travel and being outdoors. She recently embarked on a power-lifting regimen and has taken up pickleball and golf. Melissa is an avid ice hockey fan (Go Wild!) and former gymnastics coach and she hopes someday to try her hand at raising chickens and owning a vineyard.
