Attorney

Tracy McKay is a dedicated family law attorney committed to guiding families through some of life’s most challenging transitions with compassion, clarity, and strength. Her legal career is rooted in public service, including her time as a policy fellow advocating for civil rights in Washington, D.C., and as an appellate litigation intern in Federal District Court for the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law. After relocating to Colorado with her family, Tracy served as a district attorney before transitioning to family law, continuing her deep commitment to justice and advocacy.

Her extensive background in public policy and advocacy provides a powerful foundation for her law practice. Tracy takes a collaborative approach to family law, recognizing that she is working with individuals facing complex legal issues surrounding divorce, child custody and domestic relations. She combines compassionate and effective representation with a deep understanding of the emotional challenges her clients encounter. Tracy is dedicated to achieving favorable and fair outcomes while minimizing conflict and empowering clients through education and open communication.

Tracy brings additional experience in addiction recovery, special education under IDEA, and disability laws, which provides her a unique set of tools that can inform how she approaches a case, incorporating not only the legal intricacies, but also the emotional and relational dynamics that may arise. She handles each case with the diligence, empathy, and thoughtful problem-solving it deserves.

Tracy went to law school as a mother of four and earned her law degree with honors from Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law, where she served as editor of the Civil Rights Journal. She was also honored with the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Access to Justice Certificate of Achievement in Exceptional Pro Bono Service. Tracy is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and remains deeply committed to civic engagement and serving her community.

Outside the courtroom, Tracy enjoys both academic and creative writing, editing, and spending time in the kitchen with her spouse, children, and dogs—often testing new recipes and sharing meals with loved ones.
